Taobao’s Regional Foods channel has launched a special program to bring agricultural specialties and New Year’s eats to consumers. 260 Freshippo stores nationwide will remain opened; Cainiao and express delivery companies will continue business as usual throughout the holidays to bring these festive goods to consumers.
Tmall Global and Kaola, the cross-border e-commerce platform particularly popular with young consumers, will bring imports from more than 80 countries and regions to meet the skyrocketed demands of Chinese consumers during the festive period. Meanwhile, in the first half of January, searches on Kaola for single-serving products have grown 49% year over year, with sales for single-serve food appliances surging 205% YoY. Sales for multifunctional cooking appliances have also increased 81% on Kaola as people prepare for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve dinner. Breaking with the traditions of their parents’ generation, younger consumers are looking beyond domestic products for their Chinese New Year celebrations.
